Client Portraits Win Prestigious Award

Aug 30, 2019

I'm a member of Professional Photographers of America. They hold an annual print competition where our submitted work is judged by a panel of Master Photographers - some of the best in the world. It's intense, pressure-filled, and worth every moment of the hours of preparation. I have been working toward my Master of Photography Degree with PPA for several years. With this year's competition I had the potential to earn the merits necessary to complete the requirements and receive it! I was so excited to watch the judging with thousands of other photographers around the world as the judges made their decisions.

Why does this competition matter to you? Because as I challenge myself to create my best work every year for competition, I also raise the stakes on every portrait session I create for my clients. I know what makes an exceptional image, ans I want my work to reflect that knowledge every single time. Print competition exposes artists to new and exciting ideas and trends within our industry. We also see some of the finest timeless and lasting work from artisans who have been creating beautiful portraits for many years. Having my work judged each year has caused me to be a better photographer, learn even more about my craft, and become an artist dedicated to excellence and creativity.

I did it!! I was named a Silver Medalist during Professional Photographers of America's 2019 International Photographic Competition, meaning that all of my images received coveted merit award status, and one of my four merited images was chosen for the highly sought after PPA Loan Collection. In 2019, out of 1300 participants, I was one of only 128 Silver Medalists. My work will be on display at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, January 19-21, 2020. This International Photographic Exhibit is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers. I will also be receiving my Master of Photography degree at a special ceremony during the convention!

A panel of 36 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from over 5,200 total submitted entries at PPA headquarters in Atlanta. Judged against a standard of excellence, 2,654 images were selected for the General Collection and 625 (roughly 12 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated "Loan Collection" book.

Founded in 1868, Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is the largest and longest-standing nonprofit photography trade association. It currently helps 30,000+ photographers elevate their craft and grow their business with professional development, resources, and education.
