Crafting Sweet Dreams in Prescott, Arizona

Hand-crafted Artisan Chocolate

Prescott is home to a hidden gem that has been delighting chocolate lovers with its exquisite handmade confections.

Black Butterfly Artisan Chocolates, founded by Tracy Taylor, is a haven for those seeking not only delectable treats but also works of edible art. Located in the Old Firehouse Plaza in downtown Prescott, it’s one of our favorite destinations to take visitors or when we need the perfect gift for a special someone. Let's be serious though, there's never a bad time to pick up a little something for yourself!

Tracy Taylor, the mastermind behind Black Butterfly, sources the finest single-origin, fair-trade Venezuelan cacao to create a range of divine offerings, including hand-painted chocolate bonbons, mendiant disks and bars, and chocolate barks. Beyond the premium ingredients, what sets Taylor's creations apart is her dedication to both taste and aesthetics. Each bonbon is meticulously hand-painted, mendiants are carefully studded with fruits and nuts, and all confections are elegantly packaged in exquisite gift boxes. As Taylor aptly puts it, "aesthetics is important to me…because we eat with our eyes first."

While Taylor incorporates popular chocolate flavors into her repertoire, her true mastery lies in infusing unexpected and globally inspired flavors into her confections. From lemon goat cheese bonbons to black mission fig with pink peppercorn mendiants, there are tastes to please every palate. Taylor's love of global flavors, stemming from her upbringing in Vancouver, is evident in her craft as she seamlessly integrates diverse culinary influences into her creations.

Valentine’s Day is a particularly bustling time for Taylor, with demand often surpassing supply. Despite the challenges of meeting this surge, Taylor's dedication to her art remains unwavering. It takes her four days to painstakingly create her chocolates, a process that demands precision and patience.

One of the first of many steps in the four day process to create an artisanal chocolate.

Fillings are unique and all made in-house.

Taylor’s journey to becoming a chocolatier has been marked by passion and perseverance. What started as a hobby eventually blossomed into a thriving business, driven by Taylor's unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. Her decision to settle in Prescott and establish Black Butterfly was a testament to her resilience and determination to embrace transformation, much like the rare black butterfly that inspired the name of her business.

Black Butterfly Artisan Chocolates stands as a testament to Tracy Taylor's unwavering pursuit of crafting exceptional chocolates that are not just a delight to the palate but also a feast for the eyes. For those seeking a truly unique and transcendent chocolate experience, a visit to Black Butterfly is a must.
